Before I was famous, when I was just working in Gilbert's Lodge, everything was moving in slow motion - Eminem
Gilbert's Lodge is a Detroit Diner where Eminem worked from 1996 to 1998. He was a short order cook here while he recorded some of the songs on the Slim Shady LP. 'Shady Lane', a residential street near Gilbert's lodge is speculated to be the inspiration for the name of Eminem's alter-ego 'Slim Shady'.
He allegedly dated Jennifer Yezvack, a waitress from the diner, on a casual basis. According to Eminem, he made on average $6.50/hr which was barely enough for him to pay his rent. As a new dad, this was one of the lowest points in his life.
